Gratitude...in Everything Give Thanks

We had a pretty cool sermon at church yesterday that explained the whole, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" question. The analogy was the story of the men who built their house on sand and a rock. The story goes, the man who built his house on the sand found that when a storm hit, his house was destroyed, whereas the house built on the rock stood firm. The moral of the story is obvious that when we build our "foundation" on God (=the rock) we will not be destroyed.....But I had never thought of it in the sense that EVERY house gets hit by storms. Storms WILL come. It's inevitable--doesn't matter how good or bad you are. We live in an imperfect world that is full of grief. But, if we pay attention to where we build our life, we can avoid defeat. I'm really thankful for that, aren't you?

"You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with JOY, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord, my God, I will give thanks to you forever!" Psalm 30:11-12

Happy Monday to my Monday Girls!

I'll tell you what's been on my heart lately... service. I haven't done anything I could label as "service" for quite awhile, and I've been trying to keep my eyes and ears open for the path I should follow on this. I started reading the book of Acts lately (a good point of inspiration :)), and then I found out, wouldn't you know it, Acts is the book Campus House is doing for TNT this year! I've only listened to the first one in the series, but it was exellent. If anyone is looking to suppliment their Bible study, this might be good - read the book of Acts and/or listen to the 45 minute Campus House talk - then we could even discuss, if anyone is game!

Here is a link to the first couple of talks from Campus House:

Acts 1:1-11; Acts 1:12-26

Annnd because I like posting links, the church we go to here in Illinois is starting a series they're calling "FencePosts" which is talking about the main ideas of the Christian faith - going back to basics without losing the more mature believers - at least, that seems to be the goal.

Anywho, here is the introduction - I like to listen to podcasts like this while I'm at work, so I thought I'd share :). Fence Post Introduction: Jesus's Last Words

I like your ideas, bethy! I'm going to try to do the Acts Study with ya! I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcasts yet, but I'll do it soon and we can chat :)

Allow me to share a verse that is becoming dear to me....

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4

And hallelujah, Brenda's van looks like it will still run :) Sorry to see such excitement struck your house today, friend. I guess we can be thankful that it wasn't a hurricane...
